And we ought not forget the "Witch of Agnesi" - which is NOT a witch, but an equation!
It was named for Maria Gaetana Agnesi (1718-1799) - was a polymath - a genius in many fields.
She wrote an arithmetic text; I cannot recall if it was ever translated into English, but it bears investigation.
She was also a very devoted Catholic - and this too bears some investigation.
I may add some other words later - the first which leap to mind is Gauss, and Fermat, and Mersenne - and plane of osculation (fun to look up the root of that one!) And orthogonal and rhomboid, and vector and phasor...
