They're a little imposing (before we put books on the "doors", they sort of looked like they were going to fall on you), but I like them. Having the lovely book covers displayed sure has made them attractive to all of the kids.
Don't look at it from the other side of the room, though. That end is
a total mess unfinished. More work for another day.

Wow! That's awesome! I want one of those for my house. :-)
Glad you like em. :) I tell you, that
De-Solv-It is great stuff. Only with 40 year old adhesive it takes about 45 minutes worth of elbow grease to get just one shelf worth of labels off (fortunately these are the ones inside the doors so you can't see them all the time - it'll take me months to get through them all). The edges of the doors are metal and those labels cleaned off relatively easily.
OK, it looks great-- but this is about 1/20th (if so) of the books in the white shelves--how does it work?
Yes, most of the books are hidden behind the doors that lift up (and that the books you see are resting on). These "monsters" are twice as deep as the white shelves. I think that's why they seem so imposing to me. Because they're closed up (and so big), the room seems to have shrunk.

They are beautiful! The display shelves seem like a great feature for a homeschooling family. :-)
I love those bookshelves! Where did you get them?
They were being sold off at the library at my husband's work a few months ago. They were downsizing their periodicals dept.
